What is Pyrukynd used for?

This medication is used to treat hemolytic anemia. It works by slowing the breakdown of red blood cells. It may help to improve symptoms of anemia (such as shortness of breath, tiredness) and decrease the need for blood transfusion.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually twice daily. The dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, lab tests, and other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

The manufacturer directs not to split, crush, chew, or dissolve the tablet before taking it. However, many similar drugs (immediate-release tablets) can be split, crushed, or chewed. Follow your doctor's directions on how to take this medication.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day.

Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased. When stopping this medication, tell your doctor right away if you have symptoms such as yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine, confusion, tiredness, or shortness of breath.

Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using this medication unless your doctor or pharmacist says you may do so safely. Grapefruit can increase the chance of side effects with this medicine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not get better or if it gets worse.
