What is Daybue used for?

This medication is used to treat a certain rare genetic disorder (Rett syndrome). This disorder affects the development of the brain. Trofinetide may help lessen the symptoms of Rett syndrome.

Vomiting or weight loss may occur. If either of these effects lasts or gets worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Diarrhea is a common side effect that can cause dehydration. Tell your doctor promptly if you have diarrhea. Drink plenty of fluids to reduce the risk of dehydration. Your doctor may prescribe medications to control the diarrhea or stop/adjust the dose of trofinetide. Tell your doctor right away if you develop signs of dehydration (such as unusual decreased urination, unusual dry mouth/thirst, fast heartbeat, dizziness/lightheadedness).

Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
